More than anything I get questions in regards to what foods clients should eat…aka their diet plan. Not because of the lack of options – but rather than the abundance of confusion. Foods that have been shamed instead of celebrated. Or celebrated on month and shamed the next. Or others that come in so many variations it feels impossible to make the best decision.
- Is pasta okay?
- How about cheese?
- What about potatoes?
- I crave sweets from time to time…
The guide below is something I share with all of my wellness coaching clients – a simple means to make healthier nutrition choices.
I don’t necessarily believe in listing foods as approved or on the naughty list – but rather eat more, eat some or eat less. After all – all foods should be celebrated and enjoyed to some extent (that is the cajun in me speaking).
STEP 1 – KNOW YOUR FOODS
Nutritional value varies, but don’t think of it as good or bad. Thinking of it as eat more or eat less helps you make better choices rather than branding anything off-limits.
VEGETABLES
Vegetables of varying colors provide different nutrients and health benefits. So as you have heard before – eat the rainbow!
STEP 2 – BASE CHOICES ON YOUR GOALS
The portions of your food intake will depend on how you eat now and what your goals are.
STEP 3 – ADJUST YOUR PREFERENCES and LIFESTYLE
Your list is unique to you and will evolve as your goals, likes and dislikes change over time.
