How often do you deal with chronic aches and pains? How well are you able to recover after a tough workout?

If you’re experiencing pain and discomfort, here’s some good news: There’s a nonintrusive way to help. It’s called myofascial release. It can speed up recovery, help you regain your range of motion and ease pain.

Read more about why this massage technique can be so beneficial:

How does myofascial release work?

If you’re experiencing chronic lower back pain or tightness in your muscles, you may have issues with your fascia.

What’s fascia? It’s the connective tissue that surrounds and stabilizes your muscles and organs. It’s made mostly of collagen and drapes over your tissues like a spider web. If it’s inflamed or knotted, it can decrease your range of motion and cause pain.

Myofascial release loosens the grip of fascia on your muscles, joints, nerves and blood vessels. To encourage this expansion, slow and sustained pressure is applied wherever your body feels tight or stiff.

What are the benefits of myofascial release?

Myofascial release can increase blood and lymph flow, allowing the body to start to heal.

Some of the chronic conditions myofascial release can relieve include:

  • Chronic headaches

  • Muscle tension

  • Lower back pain

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Slow recovery after exercise

Along with myofascial release therapy, stretching (even 10 minutes per day) and foam rolling can help keep your fascia healthy.
